Lyrics

Puts the tree in where it’s been each year
Hangs the lights as Christmas comes near
Puts the manger out right by the front door
But hides the infant, like his dad did before

He carves the turkey as family arrives
He thinks of Christmases that have gone by
He wonders how his life could be so good.
He tried to be the best dad that he could

Chorus:
It’s grand daddy’s Christmas this year.
He’s getting old but grinning ear to ear
He’s glad to be alive and glad to have survived,
Cause it’s Grand Daddy’s Christmas this year.

The ornaments reflect the past memories
of G.I. Joe’s, the ponies, Mistletoe and glee
The sound of children as Santa comes near,
But now notes ‘it’s quiet around here’.

The presents enter in through the front door,
And soon are scattered all around the floor.
He gives a special kiss to his wife,
The one who helped him have his special life.

Chorus:
It’s grand daddy’s Christmas this year.
He’s getting old but grinning ear to ear
He’s glad to be alive and glad to have survived,
Cause it’s Grand Daddy’s Christmas this year.

Now Santa’s on the way, and grand baby wants to play
And Grand dad bounces baby on his knee,
and they sing by the Christmas tree.

Then he remembers when it all began,
the day his child turned him into a man
And how he prayed to do the best that he could,
the way his father did, the way he should

Today’s a special day with someone new
as he reflects on how his family grew.
He thanks the lord for his gifts from above.
And every Christmas with the ones he loves.

Chorus:
It’s grand daddy’s Christmas this year.
He’s getting old but grinning ear to ear
He’s glad to be alive and glad to have survived,
Cause it’s granddaddy’s Christmas this year.
Grand Daddy’s Christmas
Grand Daddy’s Christmas this year.
